Buvette

Located in the Pigalle neighborhood in the 9th arrondissement, Buvette has been cooking mighty tasty breakfast/brunch items since 2012. Though they offer traditional classics like the croque monsieur and madame, they also serve contemporary favorites like the popular toast a l'avocat (avocado toast). What came as a huge surprise was the incredibly simple but delicious yogurt with granola. It sparked our own attempts to create homemade crunchy oats/clusters and sweet berry reduction syrup.

If you choose to sit at the bar, you can observe the cooks assemble plates with unbelievably fresh local ingredients. Their dinner selection changes frequently but it currently includes coq au vin, steak tartare, various fishes and beautifully cooked vegetables. No reservations can be made at this time. There is often a line but the table turnover rate is quite quick. In our opinion, there's nothing wrong with the hostess overestimating the wait time. Their original restaurant opened in New York City in 2011. Recently in 2018, they added their third location in Tokyo.

Notable Mentions

Time Out: “There’s nothing ostentatious about the interior, all rough brick walls and wooden tables that sit well around the huge marble bar. The menu – the same for both the Paris and the New York branches, apparently – is a selection of small plates and fresh sandwiches, with an interesting wine list arranged by region.”

Paris by Mouth: “Buvette is a small plates restaurant in Pigalle from Jody Williams, who has another location in NYC. The appealing drinks menu includes artisanal cider, organic beer, a tight selection of wines, and pages of cocktail and apéritif options.”

David Lebovitz: “Amusingly, Buvette Gastrothèque is a New York-based restaurant that is based on the concept of a Parisian wine bar, which has been brought back to Paris. That’s evident by a cute little chalkboard by the door, nestled amongst some baskets of food, announcing that there’s cassoulet on the menu the night we went. When you walk inside, you realize that someone has created a picture-perfect little buvette, or a place to drink, with all the details perfectly in place.”
