Since opening it doors in the Spring of 2022, Fondue Villa and Garden has risen to become one of the premier fondue restaurants in Interlaken.  The rare feat of achieving 5/5 rating on Tripadvisor and Google reviews is largely due to their commitment to creating a genuine experience that goes beyond just a typical lunch or dinner.  During the warmer months, diners are surrounded by lush trees and vibrant flowers, a setting in nature that could be mistaken as the Secret Garden.  In the winter, the restaurant doesn’t lose its unique charm, as the recess lighting and decor creates a cozy atmosphere indoors.  If you are lucky (as we were), there are even a few tables overlooking the garden from the warm interior.  

The wide array of fondues on the menu is quite impressive from traditional, mushroom, garlic and tomato to the more adventurous choices like pesto, curry and even a creamy almond base that is completely vegan.  The alpine cheese blend is not only exceptionally well-balanced in salinity and acidity, but it also retains the creaminess you expect in a fondue.  While diners will still find the usual accompaniments of bread and potatoes, they will also discover unusual dipping options like pineapple, peppers and olives that works surprisingly well with the cheesy fondue.  Don’t be afraid to crack some fresh black pepper or dust some fondue seasoning on top to add another level of flavor! Or dunk a piece of bread into a shot of kirsch (Swiss cherry schnapps) if you are really feeling audacious.

Owner Marc Frencken from the Netherlands transformed the 1901 villa to Adventure Hostel in June 2020.  His ambitious, attentive and passionate qualities transcends to his staff, food and the establishment itself.  Even the recommendation of watching a “pre-meal” video of the history of fondue is another prime example of his dedication in providing a memorable dining experience.  The sense of curiosity and encouragement to explore is part of the mix in Marc’s fondue that guests will never forget.
