Restaurant Gurtlerhoft

Right in the heart of Strasbourg by the Notre Dame Cathedral is where you can find the quite spacious, yet intimate Gurtlerhoft. This once 12th century mansion retains its stunning high brick vaulted ceilings and elegant interior stone walls. Since opening its doors in 1985, this Alsatian restaurant continues to serve adored classics like the flammekueche (or tarte flambée in French), a very thin flatbread topped with onions, lardon (bacon bits) and crème fraîche or fromage blanc. Their version of the choucroute alsacienne is a very generous platter of sauerkraut and various pork products such as smoked bacon, pork belly, hot dogs and sausage.  Be sure to make a reservation, as the restaurant fills up quickly, especially around the holidays.
