Netflix’s “Chef’s Table” sensation Asma Khan and her #allfemalekitchen team have returned to their original location at Kingly Court in Soho with a newly renovated open kitchen and beautifully decorated contemporary dining room.  The a la carte lunch menu features many dishes from Khan’s hometown of Calcutta, widely regarded as the food capital of India.  Both the host and server enthusiastically recommended the chili cheese toastie, a true example of east versus west.  Equally impressive is the well balanced tomato gravy with fenugreek called Methi chicken.  There was even an unexpected, playful interaction with food in the puchkas, as you pour your own tamarind water into the tiny crispy fried “vessels.”  The combination of this sweet, sour and spicy “popper” exploding in your mouth highlights the welcoming complexity of Indian cuisine.  Even the simplicity of the biryani rice is something not to be missed.
